USW Canada criticizes Carney for pullback on retaliatory tariffs amid Section 232 probes
The Canadian branch of the United Steelworkers union on Tuesday blasted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for removing retaliatory duties on U.S. goods traded under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, contending that the U.S. is “diluting” the pact by expanding its use of Section 232 investigations. The Trump administration earlier this month increased tariffs on Canadian goods from 25 percent to 35 percent, though it maintained a carveout for goods traded under USMCA.
