Senate Finance member Tina Smith won’t seek re-election in 2026
Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN), who joined the Senate Finance Committee this Congress, announced on Thursday that she will not seek re-election in 2026. “This decision is not political, it is entirely personal,” she said on social media and in an op-ed for the Minnesota Star Tribune. She cited a desire to spend time with her children and young grandchildren. Smith was appointed in December 2017 to replace then-Sen. Al Franken (D). She successfully ran for a full term in 2020...
