New House bill would limit presidential authority to place tariffs on groceries
A newly introduced House bill would limit the president’s authority to impose tariffs on food products without first receiving congressional approval. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) on Wednesday introduced the “ No Tariffs on Groceries Act ,” which would bar the president from imposing duties on food without first submitting to Congress a “request to impose such duties” and receiving congressional approval, according to the text.
