Hatch Cautions Of Wavering TPP Support In Congress If Deal Does Not Meet TPA Objectives

Editor's Note: In his speech, Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) highlights the need for TPP to meet negotiating objectives in the fast-track law also known as Trade Promotion Authority. This appears to be a reference to two key outstanding issues in TPP negotiations: the data exclusivity period for biologics and a carve-out for tobacco regulations from trade challenges. On biologics, the TPA law passed on June 29, 2015 requires that any trade agreement the U.S. enters must reflect IP protections similar to those found in U.S.
