Dombrovskis approved as EU trade commissioner

The European Parliament on Tuesday voted to approve Valdis Dombrovskis as trade commissioner. The vote was 515-110, with 70 lawmakers abstaining. Dombrovskis, one of three EU executive vice presidents, is a former prime minister of Latvia. He was picked for the post after Ireland’s Phil Hogan resigned as trade commissioner amid a controversy over his handling of coronavirus-related restrictions.
