Froman Threatens To Limit S. Africa's AGOA Benefits Over Meat Barriers

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman this week delivered the most direct threat thus far that the U.S. will suspend some of South Africa's trade preferences under the African Growth and Opportunity (AGOA) Act if it does not roll back sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures that limit or completely block imports of U.S. poultry, pork and beef, according to a USTR readout of his meeting with the country's top trade official.
