Sources: U.S. auto, steel industries collaborating on NAFTA rules of origin proposal

U.S. auto and North American steel sector representatives are jointly developing a proposal for how to update NAFTA’s automotive rules of origin that is designed to mollify both industries, addressing “loopholes” they say could encourage the use of foreign steel in autos qualifying for NAFTA benefits, industry sources told Inside U.S. Trade.
