Japan defends U.S. trade deal amid scrutiny at the WTO

The U.S.-Japan trade agreement fully complies with World Trade Organization rules, Tokyo said last week after facing questions from several countries in Geneva. In Japan’s answers to questions raised during its July trade policy review , released publicly on Oct. 7, the European Union, Israel, China, Canada and New Zealand pressed Japan on how the bilateral pact conforms to Article XXIV of the General Agreement on Tariffs Trade, which states that “substantially all trade” between the parties must be liberalized...
