BIS announces rule aimed at curbing firearm exports to ‘high-risk’ countries

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security on Friday announced it plans to limit firearm exports to non-government entities in countries the U.S. deems “high-risk.” The changes are intended to “reduce the risk of legally exported firearms and related items being diverted or misused to fuel regional instability, drug trafficking, human rights violations, political violence, and other activities that undermine U.S. national security and foreign policy interests,” Commerce said in an April 26 statement .
