Ways & Means member Panetta urges colleagues to prioritize TPA renewal

Lawmakers must be better educated about the importance of Trade Promotion Authority law and renew it before it expires next year, Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) said on Monday. Many trade analysts predict TPA will lapse on July 1. Some have also raised fundamental questions about the purpose of law, which allows for “fast-track” congressional consideration of trade agreements.
