President to decide soon on defense bill that includes 'buy American' footwear provision

The Senate has approved a defense authorization bill that includes a controversial “buy American” footwear provision the White House has opposed, sending the bill to the president. The provision mandates the purchase of footwear for military recruits that is produced in the United States – which critics say largely benefits one company, New Balance.
