NFTC president denounces reassignment of CBP personnel

The reassignment of customs officers to immigration duties is harming U.S. companies and consumers, National Foreign Trade Council President Rufus Yerxa said on Tuesday in a letter to Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan. Last week the Trump administration announced that as many as 750 workers at ports of entry would be temporarily relocated to help border patrol agents address migrants. The directive from Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to McAleenan also instructed CBP to “explore raising that target.”...
