Ernst expects retaliation against agriculture for 232 tariffs, fears 'very bad year' for farmers

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) anticipates a “very bad year” for farmers, in part because trading partners will target agriculture in retaliating against the U.S. for its recently announced Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Ernst, in a March 11 interview with AgriPulse , called the U.S. agriculture industry a prime target for countries that choose to respond to the tariffs, which President Trump said were needed to protect national security.
