USTR COOL TO FINANCE LABOR AMENDMENT TO OMAN DRAFT FTA BILL

The Bush Administration has signaled it will not include an amendment overwhelmingly approved by the Senate Finance Committee yesterday (May 18) to draft legislation implementing the Oman Free Trade Agreement that would require the administration to suspend free trade benefits on imported merchandise from Oman made under slave labor conditions. The modified amendment, which was introduced by Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND), was approved 18-0 during the mock mark-up of the draft implementation legislation.
