WTO authorizes U.S. retaliation against EU in Airbus subsidies case

The World Trade Organization has told the U.S. it may move ahead with retaliation against the European Union for its subsidization of airplane manufacturer Airbus, a move that could further entrench tensions between the two trading partners. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström confirmed the decision to reporters on Monday, arguing that both the U.S. and EU “have sinned” and saying the two sides should instead work to resolve the disputes without tariffs.
