U.S., Russia to extend suspension agreement on uranium imports

The Commerce Department and the Russian government have reached a preliminary deal to extend and amend a suspension agreement capping uranium imports from Russia through 2040. Commerce and the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, which negotiated on behalf of the Kremlin, completed a draft amendment to the U.S.-Russian suspension agreement aimed at reducing U.S. reliance on uranium from Russia, according to a Sept. 12 statement from the department.
