U.S., Japan Auto Deal Seeks To Protect U.S. Market And Open Up Japan

The initial deal on automotive trade announced by the United States and Japan this morning (April 12) contains provisions designed to both protect the U.S. market from a flood of Japanese auto exports -- at least in the near term -- and pry open the Japanese market, which historically has been mostly closed to U.S. exports.
