Trump’s pick for ambassador to Japan takes on trade, TPP questions

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee used Thursday's confirmation hearing for President Trump’s pick to serve as ambassador to Japan, Bill Hagerty, as a chance to extract pledges that their trade complaints will be addressed. Hagerty told panel members that some outcomes negotiated in the Trans-Pacific Partnership could be used as a basis to tackle those issues of concern -- and that TPP outcomes could weave their way into the Economic Dialogue being led by Vice President Mike Pence...
