Senators reintroduce bill calling for WTO-compliant beef labeling
A bipartisan group of senators this week reintroduced a bill that would restore mandatory country-of-origin labeling requirements for U.S. beef products. In 2021, Senate Agriculture and Finance Committee member John Thune (R-SD), along with Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT), Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Mike Rounds (R-SD), introduced the “American Beef Labeling Act .” The legislation would direct U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, in collaboration with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, to develop World Trade Organization-compliant COOL requirements for beef within one year...
