Chamber: Elements of USMCA should not be viewed as model for new FTAs

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce contends that while the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement is an improvement over the original NAFTA in some areas, several of its provisions should not be “viewed as precedents” for future trade deals. “Chamber members believe strongly that the USMCA outcomes on investment protection, government procurement, de minimis, and Canada’s cultural exemption must not be viewed as precedents for future trade agreements,” the group said in Oct. 30 comments submitted to the U.S. International Trade Commission.
