Biden order could limit trade with Nicaragua
President Biden on Monday issued an order expanding sanctions on Nicaragua that “could potentially” prohibit both imports from and exports to the country, the White House said. Biden amended a November 2018 executive order that sanctioned supporters of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega. The Biden administration last November called Ortega’s re-election a “sham ” after the Nicaraguan president imprisoned almost 40 political opponents, including seven potential candidates.
