Analysts point to investment, dispute settlement changes in USTR's Japan objectives

The Trump administration's negotiating objectives for a U.S.-Japan free trade agreement include weaker investment and dispute settlement language than those included in prior deals, according to former trade officials and other sources. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative's 17-page summary of its objectives for a potential deal with Tokyo largely mirrors the 18 pages of objectives it released for the NAFTA renegotiation process earlier in Trump's term.
