Senate Defeats Portman-Stabenow Currency Amendment, Approves Hatch Alternative

The Senate this evening defeated by a vote of 48 to 51 a currency amendment (S.A. 1299) to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill that was sponsored by Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and would have instructed U.S. negotiators to seek enforceable disciplines against currency manipulation in future trade agreements.
