Despite declaring their support for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), U.S. poultry producers are complaining that access to the Malaysian market promised under the deal is essentially meaningless because of their inability to secure crucial certifications showing compliance with Malaysia's halal meat requirements. Under TPP, Malaysia granted TPP countries a 20,000 metric-ton tariff-rate quota (TRQ) for frozen chicken cuts and offal, and a 400 metric-ton TRQ for frozen whole chicken.
